The old saying “trust your gut” refers to trusting those feelings of intuition, often to stay true to yourself.

A sixth sense, hunch, or gut feeling; whatever you choose to call it. It seems those gut feelings do mean something, and they can often help you make good choices. You might experience them as a faint whisper or the sense of uneasiness, but they could also feel so strong, you can’t imagine ignoring them.
Early on in my nursing career, one Director of Nursing would say to me “go with your gut, I will always back your decision 100%.” I am so grateful for those simple words; they have proven to be so valuable to me. Giving me the confidence I needed, and the power to hone my intuition.
What Experts Say About Gut Feelings
Experts say gut feeling or intuitions come from patterns we.ve identified in our past experiences. Our subconscious mind continuously processes information that we are not consciously aware of not only when we are asleep but also when we are awake.
Gut feelings or intuitions occur when our brain makes a substantial match or mismatch between past experiences and current experiences. What we are noticing are patterns based on passed experiences, we store these patterns and associated information as long-term memory and then retrieve the information when we see these patterns again in our everyday experience.
Trust Your Gut

I have further developed my Intuition with Reiki. Our intuition resides in our solar plexus (3rd chakra) just above your belly button and our third eye (6th chakra), located in our forehead area between our eyes. When these chakras are in balance and functioning well, we can trust its guidance and adjust our actions accordingly.
Time and practice can hone your intuition, so give your gut feelings the consideration they deserve. Tuning into feelings and bodily cues can help you practice listening to your gut and learning when to trust it.
To utilize your intuition, you may want to focus your attention on it regularly and trust your feelings.
